Java Hut (Coffee Shop)

All of the same questions were racing through her mind, where was that douche of a hipster she called her husband?

Work.

Miles and miles away.

When he pulled away, she shook her head and looked into those colorless eyes, "Do you really want to go?"

"Don't you?" Wallace's eyes darted from hers to her lips, to the color of her cheeks, to the way her glasses so perfectly accentuated her cheekbones. He kissed her again, briefly. "Where?"

Those colorless eyes suddenly were more brilliant, more exhilarating than every firework in the world. His sticky neck was now warm with passion and nothing else. He was everything she needed. Life. If she was thinking aloud she would have laughed. He was undead, yet he was life. "He's not going to home till tomorrow, business trip of some sort."

With a loud crack, the alley was left to the rats once more.

Wallace sipped his mocha frappe with a look of mild disappointment. Why on earth did they have to meet in public for such a discussion? There wasn't enough mocha in that cup. Fruits would be fruits. He didn't look at her when she entered, he didn't show any acknowledgement when she took the chair opposite -- the same table they'd taken nearly four months ago.

No longer could Amanda slip into that form fitting little black dress, nor the jacket with dozens of jingly buttons. A round bump protruded from her stomach, inside of her sin was growing. She didn't finger the same lovely cup of hot chocolate, but what the Java Hut called a 'natural strawberry smoothie'.

Sometimes when she spoke to Trevor, who was pretending the baby was his, she imagined he was Wallace. That in the end she was married to and loved by Wallace. An old flame burning passionately. But in reality she knew just as well as Trevor did, wishing hard for something didn't make it true.

Amanda didn't hate Wallace, far from it. She hated that he probably despised the child inside, and the one carrying it.

His drink eventually ran dry after a long period of silence between them.

"Trevor is in denial... he thinks its his. I-I figured you may want a part in its life..." Amanda sighed, "We know the gender?" She began fingering the cracks in the table as she four months ago this very day.

"You'd be the one to know something like that."

"Well, I wondered if you'd like to know."

He covered his right hand with his left. "I guess."

"It's a girl..." Amanda took a slight sip out of her drink, continuing more quietly. "Do you want a part in her life?"

He popped a knuckle -- a nervous habit he'd acquired in recent years. "I feel like I'm under judgment, here."

Amanda shrugged. "It's entirely your choice. I figured since it was your sperm and all you ought to have say."

"Isn't that a nice way of putting it."
