Breakfast!

The typical welcoming scents of Great Hall began to waft through the winding corridors of Hogwarts- even the common rooms of Ravenclaw and Gryffindor seemed to fill with the delicious smell of buttery, homemade waffles. No first year got lost this surprisingly sunny morning- their maps were their noses.

Amanda and Clyde came filing in along with a large group of Ravenclaws, both taking their seats at the table.

Serenity was about half and half disgusted and delighted by the sight of the waffles.
"How could anyone eat these.. After last night's feast, it was so much food.." She groaned, staring at the waffles as she sat down.
She turned to her housemates.
"Dear God. They look so good."

"They really do!" Libby exclaimed as she threw her bag down and sat with Serenity. "Good thing, innit? I'm starving!"

"They're as good as they look!" exclaimed Max, smiling at the two of them. His plate was loaded with food. He had four waffles stacked on top of each other, and they were completely drenched in marmalade. To the side he had two sausages, and a huge pile of applesauce.

"Hi, I'm Max!" he said brightly. He intended on becoming best friends with everyone in his house, and the blonde girl was pretty cute besides that.

Rachel beamed when she saw the return of all the delicious food on the tables. She sat right down beside Amanda, and she grabbed a waffle. "At least we don't have to worry about going hungry. Eugh, do they serve pumpkin juice here? That crap tastes like piss."

Meals, especially breakfasts, at Hogwarts were not Boris' favorite times of day. Sure, they food was good, but everything else was so difficult. He did not know which foods were safe or not to eat. Things were so much easier at his house.

The spicy scent of the sausages tickled Bore's nostrils, but he glumly went with his usual "safe" breakfast-toast, with tomatoes piled on top, a shiny red apple, and since they were serving them today, one modestly sized waffle.

Amanda scoped the table, her target being butter and the milk pitcher. Additionally pumpkin juice for curiosity's sake.

As she reached for the milk, she turned and shook her head. "Don't see any of it. Pumpkin food of any kind is definitely not my thing."

"Oh, I bet. I'm Serenity, nice to meet you Max." She got herself a waffle, and covered it in syrup.
"Thanks for the tip about the waffles.. Wow, how much are you eating?"

"Hi, Max! I'm Libby!" she chirped. Libby wasn't normally a morning person, but she was so excited to start her first day of school that she was extra peppy. Heeding Max's advice, she stacked a couple of marmalade-covered waffles on her plate and began to eat.

"I have to eat a lot. It's the first day of class." Max answered her, though his reasoning seemed to lack much sense. He began shoveling waffles down, as Professor McGonagall began to weave in and out of the House tables, distributing schedules.

"Oh, look!" Max immediately unrolled his slip of parchment, and turned to Libby and Serenity. "We have flying next Friday!"

"It's disgusting. I don't understand how people can eat it. Or drink it. Whatever; It's pumpkin." Rachel reached for some bacon.

"They're meant for Jack-O-Lanterns and that's about it!" Amanda stated as she began to cut her waffles.

"I agree!" Rachel quickly caught her schedule in her left hand before it fell into her food. She tore it open.

"Hmm... we have Transfiguration first. Where's that?"

Amanda glanced at her's- you would think in such a big school they would at least list which floor the class was on.

"I have no idea... we may just have to follow the herd."

"Oh, I'm so excited for that! I love flying. I mean, I'm no good at quidditch. Or many sports, really, but recreational flying, just little joyrides.. They're lovely." Serenity took her schedule from McGonagall.

"Hmm.. Ooh, I have a break after charms! Okay, so.. How are we supposed to find these?" Serenity asked, staring at her schedule.

"I'll have no problem with flying-I've had plenty of experience already." Max said rather pompously. But he shrugged at Serenity's question.

"I dunno. I guess we just walk around."

"Huh, okay. You'd think they'd include a map.. So, I bet you want to be on the Quidditch team next year?" Serenity asked, her eyebrows raising. What a cocky little first year he was.
She grabbed a piece of toast, and buttered it up.

"I love flying!" Libby exclaimed, taking a break from eating. "I'm so excited for it! My siblings and I fly around and play different games at home all the time. I think I might try out for Quidditch next year, myself."

"Of course I do, and I probably will be!" Max turned away from Serenity, towards Libby. "What position do you play?" he grilled her.

"We try to switch it around every time," Libby explained. "I'm pretty decent at all positions, but I tend to be a Chaser or a Beater 'cause that's what I'm best at. Chasing especially, though. What about yourself?"

"I'm a Chaser too! I'm pretty good at Keeping, too, but I don't think that Oliver Wood is going to give that up. I heard some of the other guys talking about him... he's supposed to be great. Slytherin has had the cup forever-we need to beat them." Max might as well had been a Chatty Cathy doll.

Serenity rolled her eyes. Sports talk. Unfortunately, the Slytherin table was all the way on the other side of the Great Hall, so she craned her neck and looked over at the far table for those telltale glasses and dark black hair.
"Pardon me." She mumbled, when she stuck Libby in the face with her elbow. "My bad.."

"Of course he's not. Why would he ever?" Libby sighed, and was subsequently elbowed in the face. "Ow!... Don't worry about it, it's alright," she murmured, taking a bite out of her waffles.

"I dunno. He injuries himself. He's thrown off the team. Anything is possible."

"Please. An injury wouldn't stop Oliver Wood from playing! I hear that his very first game, he got hit with a bludger and was knocked cold for a week. And now he's Captain of the Gryffindor team! The only way he would stop playing is if he left Hogwarts... which he'll have to do soon enough, but, you know."

"Hmm..." Max broke out in a grin. "When he graduates, I think I'll become the Quidditch captain!" he declared loudly.

A few upperclassmen nearby rolled their eyes. Libby kept in her laughter with a smirk. "Okay, good luck with that..." she said sarcastically.

"Hey, you don't believe me?" he frowned at Libby.
