Compartment #10

"...This is an empty here, thank you." Rachel said. She looked around the compartment briskly, and turned to look back at Drew.

"I can manage from here." she said, taking her violin back from him.

"Alright!" Drew pushed her trunk under the seat for her. "I guess I'll see you around, then."

Drew turned to leave, but stopped and figured he may as well introduce himself. "I'm Drew, by the way. Drew Brown."

"I'm Rachel Moreno." She said politely, and she even offered him a smart smile. "I will most likely be seeing you around."

"I'm in Hufflepuff, by the way. I'm a third year. So... yeah. I'll see you!" With that, Drew turned on his heel and left the compartment.

Not much time passed before the door of the cabin suddenly slid open, crashing into the side. "Haaaaappy morning!" shouted Melenie, extending her arm upward in greeting while keeping the other firmly wrapped around the family owl's cage.

"Oh, uh, good morning!" Rachel said, after jumping at least a foot in the air from the crashing noises and the screeching owl. She looked uneasily at the girl, who seemed so much younger than her.

"Do you need some help with that?" she asked, standing back up.

"Nope!" squeaked the girl, plopping down across from Moreno, beaming away. "He's not that heavy. Just fidgety. And he's a biter. But, oh well. What year are you?" she asked.

"Oh, I'm a first year-wait, Mel?" Rachel squinted at the girl across from her.

"Damn, I knew you looked familiar! When did you get that awful haircut?!" she exclaimed, looking aghast.

Mel frowned, touching her silken-straight hair as though examining a wound. "It's straight... I thought straight was in..."

It was the horrid attempt at bullet-bangs that killed the look. They weren't short enough, and almost entirely hid her eyes. Two chin-length forelocks accompanied them. All in all, she had the look of a very stereotypical cartoon character.

"I don't... what's wrong with... Hey, wait a second. Who are you?" She squinted.

"Ugh, your bangs are so long you can't even see out of them!" Rachel rolled her eyes. Then, she reached forward, and pushed the bangs out of Mel's eyes.

"See, it's me Rachel. Ray-chell. Rachel Moreno!" she exclaimed. She released the bangs, and then gave her friend a gentle thunk on the forehead.

"... Oh." Mel shook her bangs back into place. "You're a sorcière too?"

"You never knew?" Rachel said, frowning.

"Well, I mean, you WERE allowed on the island, so I guess... I forgot you were my age, though. Maybe that was it!" she said, laughing.

"Why would you say that? We've known each other for ages." Rachel said, her voice dripping with offense.

"We haven't SEEN each other in ages, either..." Mel trailed off, staring pointedly at Rachel's chest with a mischievous grin.

"Hey, stop looking there!" Rachel said, wishing she hadn't foregone wearing her cardigan.

"They REALLY started growing back in January. But Mel, are they truly that big? Mum thinks so, and so does Dad..."

A rather well-tanned and well-dressed (for the nineties) little eleven year old, with a rather trademark blonde ponytail tied up with a scrunchie, pushed open the compartment door. She was wearing a red and green tartan skirt, and a light tan sweater. She also carried a rather self-important air about her, despite being, well.. Eleven.

"Melanie, do people get train sick? I think I'm train sick.." Serenity had just emerged from the bathroom, feeling rather green.

"Are you kidding? You're eleven like the rest of these dweebs! Look at me!" Mel cried, clutching at her own, board-flat chest through her blouse. "I've got a year on you and I could pass as a lad!" She tugged Serenity into the cabin and onto the seat beside her. Immediately, she began to fake-sob into her friend's wool-clad shoulder. "A LAD!"

Rachel openly stared at Melanie, and then Serenity with her eyebrows raised up into her bangs.

"Um, hello. Are you a friend of Mel's?" she asked, her prim voice returning.

"Oh God.." Serenity murmured, feeling her stomach lurch. "Yeah, we're friends. I'm Serenity, pleasure to meet you.. Um, don't worry, Mel.."
"They'll.. Get bigger. And if they don't, there's always surgery. What exactly started this-" After Serenity took another look at Rachel, she realized exactly what prompted the conversation.
"Oh my. Uh, definitely.. Uh.. It's okay, Mel. At least you probably weigh less!"

"Seree, you're a wire. And you just wretched. You smell like wretch, get off of me." Mel pushed her away and slid to the corner of the seat. tucking her knees to her chest. "Rachel used to visit the island some summers. Plus we went to St. Coria's together." She sniffed. "Chel, do you ever remember a little blonde girl romping around with El-Anj-an-I?"

Now Rachel's face had turned almost as red as her hair. She was on her feet, and she was pointing a sharp finger at this blonde girl. Serenity or whatever her name was.

"Who do you think you are, saying that?! You're nothing but a stupid little slag... you'll probably be sorted into Hufflepuff...!"

"I-I'm sorry?" Serenity stared at Rachel, not quite sure what she had said that was so wrong.
"I don't think I'm a stupid slag. I think I'm just being honest. Your breasts are massive, in case you haven't noticed. It makes sense that you would weigh more than Mel." She shrugged, trying to stifle a groan. Maybe she ate something bad..

"Plus, I'm at least ten cench shorter than you. I think that might subtract a bit..."

"Hmph." Rachel plopped back down on her seat, and she crossed her arms with a pout. "I would have left this compartment, if it wasn't too much of a struggle to het all my stuff out." Rachel projected her voice in a dramatic fashion.
