Sorting Ceremony and Opening Feast

Jennifer heard what Brian had said, but was a bit to shocked from Professor Brown's grand entrance to reply. She moved along with the rest of the crowd, almost like a sheep.

And so, the Sorting Hat was brought out.

Jennifer heard herself gasp, along with many others. How could a single, dingy hat that looked awfully worn out hold their fate for the next seven years? It was impossible!

Dianna looked over crossly at Jennifer, and the other "gaspers" so to speak. She didn't really understand what the fuss was about. Had they never seen a hat before? Honestly.

Brian stared at the hat interestedly. "You know, my older siblings told me about the hat. At first I thought they were joking, but I guess that they were serious!"


Professor Brown eyed the whole crowd, and stepped up. "Dianna Astor," she said, reading from the top of the lis.

"Oh great.." Dianna mumbled. She had to be first. Stupid last name.

So, she went up there and put the hat on her head, trying not to stare at the crowd too much.

"Hmm... what an interesting little girl you are. You could be smart, you know, if you put that brain of yours to use. You're a bit of a schemer, aren't you?-Getting your brother into trouble. But, you also seem to be rather daring, when you want to be, with a hint of boldness. With a mix of all these things, it's rather to difficult where to choose you..."

The entirety of the Great Hall was silent as The Sorting Hat considered it's options, before shouting:

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Dianna took the hat off and set it back on the stool, frowning at it. Weird, talking hat. Whatever, she wouldn't have to do that again.

With that all over with, she went over to the Gryffindor table and sat down, talking with some upperclassmen.

"Hey!" a voice behind Jennifer whispered shrilly.

After being separated from all his friends, besides that Natalie girl he sat with, he had no idea where anybody was. It was even harder now to make out who anyone was, in the sea of black he was in. But finally, he saw the back of Jennifer and Brian's heads, and he waved at her a little.

Jennifer smiled widely. She hadn't seen her friend in what seemed forever! She turned quickly and waved a hello response. "Where were you? I was all alone on the train ride!" She whispered back.

Dianna was quite bored. The upperclassmen had gotten tired of talking to her, and there weren't any other first years at her table. She hoped desperately that Anthony or Brian or Jennifer would be in Gryffindor. How would she bear it without them? Even her cousin Caroline wasn't in this house. It'd be terrifying, just terrifying if she didn't know anything..
Well, besides Anthony's siblings. And she had heard quite enough about them from Anthony that she was going nowhere near them. Well.. Maybe Will, he was nice. But he was much too old to be her friend.

"I couldn't find you! I was sitting with someone else, during the ride..." Anthony looked around. Now he didn't know where she ran off to.

Jennifer had been pushed around by the crowd, some students at the back wanted to get a better look at the hat. She squirmed her way back towards him. "This is so exciting, don't you think?"

Brian turned to Anthony. "HEY Anthony! There you are!"

"Oh, hi Brian!" Anthony whispered back. "Where were you, today?"

"I sat with Cameron on the train," he said and sighed. "Not the most fun thing, but I loved the food trolley!! And you know what? where were YOU!" he whispered.

Professor Brown clapped her hands and frowned. "Settle down, everyone! Alright, next is..." Some other A's went up, and a B, and then... "Brian Brown," she said, eying her very own son stumble up to the stage, and look at everyone, before climbing up onto the stool.

Will Sawyer, actually stood up on the bench, and he pointed at Brian's attention. Yes, he did of course had the intention of publicly embarrass Brian the very best he could. You know, as sort of a Hogwarts Initiation.

"You go Brian, you got this! I've had faith in you since the beginning!" Will screeched loudly.

Meanwhile from the crowd of First Years, Anthony began to worry a little. Not for Brian, but for his own sake. Was Will going to do the same for him?

Dianna stared at Will. "Is he insane?" She asked another girl at the table.
"No, just adorable.."

Derek, too began to do the same. He stood up and clapped loudly, rooting for Brian.

Brian's smile was wiped from his face, and he looked horrendously embarrassed for a moment. But he just waited for his mom to put the hat on his head.

Professor Brown glared at both Derek and Will, then bent down to put the hat on Brian's hat. "Just ignore them," she whispered, with a smile. Brian, then decided to do so, and continued to grin. What a big, weird hat! And thankfully, it hid his vision from them.


Leah rolled her eyes, scowling at Derek and Will. "Would both of you shut UP?"

"Aww, come on Leah!" Will sat back down after the hat was placed on Brian's head, and he was speaking in whispers. "I think he liked the attention-did you see how big he was smiling?!"

"Hmm... there's no question about it. You are certainly one of the more nicer boys in your grade, aren't you? And you always seem to put in some hard work in everything you do, and loyalty for your friends. It better be...

"HUFFLEPUFF!" shouted the hat, and the Hufflepuff table erupted into cheers for him.

"Oh. Fantastic." Dianna mumbled, putting her head down on the table, quite in distress. "I'm going to die. I'm going to get eaten by upperclassmen and DIE."

Brian pulled the hat off and gave it to his mother. He ran down the steps to the Hufflepuff table. Sure, none of his siblings were in it, but the loud cheers and the fact that his mother was once in this house cheered him right up.

Professor Brown went through more B's, soon came to the C's. "Natalie Conway," she said, and out pushed a small girl, walking up to the stool, her curly hair shading her face and bouncing with each eager step. Her robes were quite large for her, and her hands were a bit hidden as she pulled up onto the stool.

"Hah!-What a bright little spirit you have! Always burning, and never wanting to go out, like a candle. You're are definitely brave and bold, but you are also very loyal to the friends you have, correct? But, you definitely belong in... GRYFFINDOR!"

The hat didn't take much time at all to decide Natalie's place. She was only sitting up there for about fifteen seconds before it made up it's mind.

Natalie's eyes brightened. She jumped off the stool and set the hat on the stood. "Thank you!" she said to the hat, and ran down the steps to the Gryffindor table.

Anton Towers was waiting around nervously, waiting for his name to be called. He wistfully thought back to his trunk. Maybe if he had one of his Bleach mangas to leaf through, he wouldn't be quite so nervous.
