Phil had indeed beaten Matthew there, and he already began walking along the shore of the lake, looking for smooth flat rocks.

A small pebble, too minuscule to actually hurt anyone, went sailing through the air and whizzed right past Phillip's head. "Are you like, apparating somehow? I swear to god, you're way too fast to be normal!" Matthew shouted as he jogged towards Phillip, looking for rocks as well.

"No," he said laughing. Phil picked up a smooth rock that was very light gray, and gave it smooth throw. It skipped four times before it sunk beneath the lake. "I'm just more in shape than you, that's all. Maybe you should play that 3DS thing of yours less." Phil teased, smiling at him.

Matthew threw up his hands in defense. "Hey! Only during the summer. If there weren't such freaky muggles on my street I'd go run around with them. Also, jogging around Hogwarts is enough work. Especially to the common room!" he picked up a rock of his own. Skip. Skip. Skip. Skip.

"You have weirdo Muggles on your street?! That's cool! What do they do?" Phil was deliberating between two rocks: should he use the more practical brown rock, or the cool one with the lack sparkles in it?

"Quite. They drive around in those chunky ugly car things, and just make a lot of noise. Dad says it's normal but... I doubt it."

"All Muggles have cars, Matt!" Phill said, eventually deciding on the cool sparkling rock. But when he threw it immediately sunk to the bottom of the lake. "Some wizards have them, too. They're just convenient."

"Oh, I know!" Matt sounded nearly exasperated, as if he had tried explaining this before. "But these things are like, monster sized. I think they said monster trucks actually. Mom get's so pissed when they leave the street at the crack of dawn." Noticing Phil's bad luck, Matt took the other rock he was deliberating about, which easily skipped five times.

"Monster trucks?!" Phil raised his rather full, brown eyebrows with surprise as he picked up another stone. "That IS weird! Your neighborhood must be full of weirdos, Matt."

"I told you! Dad says it's since the guy who lives there is going through mid life crisis. Whatever the hell that is... But, besides that it's nice. His kids are sketchy though." Matt chucked another rock into the lake, this time purposely letting it sink.

"My best friend growing up lived right next door to me, his names was Kevin." Philip paused for a minute before going back to skip stones, as he was looking and reflecting. "We had adventures everyday, and we used to like to play pirates. But his brother was an ass though."

"That sounds cool. 'Cept the brother of course." Matt kicked some dirt into the lake, watching it ripple. "I always have my little sister to hang out with. But, can't say her brother's an ass."

Phil laughed for a long time, before sighing and skipping another rock. There was a spark of fleeting pride-he managed to get the rock to skip seven times across the lake.

"Hey, did you hear that Professor Longbottom and his wife bought the Leaky Cauldron to run themselves?!"

"Now you sound a bit like those girls in the Entrance Hall! But yeah, I did. Good for them that they have enough money. His wife is gonna have a handful... it'll nearly only be her there and whatever staff. But good for them!" He was quiet for a second, but then laughed, "Think if you were a bad student he'd the staff not to leave a mint on your pillow?"

"Nah, of course not! Professor Longbotton is probably the nicest teacher in the entire school! He doesn't go around handing out T's or D's like they're free sweets in a little shop!"

"He is pretty cool now that you mention it, about grades at least." Matt agreed, now leaning on a tree as if the few throws of rocks and pebbles had worn him out.

Matt may have been taking a break, but the 'physically fit' Matt was still skipping stones.

"Yeah, you're right. His tests are so hard though... I think only got an acceptable on the last one."

"I got an E. It's all memorization. Like I said, when I'm day dreaming, I absorb. Just homework is too much work." Matthew shrugged, and got off of his tree to continue with his friend, now throwing rocks again.

"Memorization is bull, though. You just end up forgetting everything once the test is over. You don't learn anything." Phil explained, in his thoughtful way.

Matt took that thought in. "I suppose you've got a point there. Besides those who have like, photographic memory though."

"I'm... not sure. I'd think you would know the ratio. Since you're you!" Matt said, as if Phillip was a mad genius encyclopedia.

"Matthew, this may come as a shocking surprise to you, but I do not spend my time going around researching and looking up statistics." Phil rolled his eyes. Matt could be such an airhead sometimes!
