I was listening to the soundtrack of Mother 3, and I had a thought.
The closer you get to Porky in the game, the more his theme seems to come up in different variations.

the further you get into the game, the more he's taken over, thus the more leitmotif scattered about

That's exactly what I was thinking! You first hear when that aircraft goes by, and it's just heard on a little recorder. By the time you reach New Pork City. Some variation is playing EVERYWHERE.
