Platform Nine and Three Quarters, 1991 Empty
PostSubject: Platform Nine and Three Quarters, 1991   Platform Nine and Three Quarters, 1991 Icon_minitimeTue Jun 25, 2013 7:53 pm

It was the beginning of a new year.

Children and their families were beginning to crowd the platform - it was about 10:30, and the train was set to leave at 11:00 sharp, just as it did every year. Seats were starting to fill up on the train as kids said good-bye and scrambled to find a compartment with their friends.

However, Nicolas, of the Sawyer family, didn't know any of these people. Up until a couple weeks ago, he assumed he'd be going to secondary school in his hometown of St. Albans. But, apparently he's a wizard, and has to go to wizard school. Wasn't this the kind of stuff that only happened in books?

Despite how nervous he felt, he gave both of his parents kisses on the cheek, and hugged his little sister, Katherine. After saying good-bye for about the fifth time, he gripped his trunk tightly and hauled it onto the train, looking for an empty compartment.

Shortly after Nicolas boarded the train, a family of six dashed onto the platform. They had arrived with more than enough time to spare, but the parents always liked getting there a bit early. Now they had three kids to send off to school: Grace, the oldest, was now a fifth-year and a Slytherin Prefect; Andrew was going into his third year as a Hufflepuff; and Libby was going to be sorted that very evening. After final good-byes to their parents and little sister, Holly, the three boarded the train and went their separate ways.

"Erugh... damn thing..." A little girl was struggling with her carriage, and the owl cage that was securely fastened to the top of it. Now, she wasn't normally supposed to curse, but seeing how her parents and sister didn't show up, she figured that she could do whatever she wanted.

She wasn't athletic or strong. Or white shirt and lavender skirt weren't the best things to wear when hauling around heavy things. And she had to do it all by herself.

"Ex-excuse me!" Rachel yelled, trying to flag down one of the train workers (or anyone's attention.) She simply couldn't get the damn thing up the stairs and onto the train.

There she stood. Totally lost and with a face of someone who was just about to break down in hysterics. One week ago Amanda Potter was just a simple kid who's only prayers were that summer could last a little longer and that her mom would make something edible for dinner.

However, now she was praying she had been born a squib. The crammed platform was bustling with the cacophonous sobs of first years combined with the ear-splitting whistle of a conductor who, as he chanted to himself frequently, was only twenty trips to Hogwarts away from retirement.

To be honest? The crowd at Diagon Alley was manageable. Armed with a map and her mother, Amanda could handle it. The massive conflux of children fighting over the last copy of Hogwarts: A History in the book story? A little less friendly, but bearable. However, the mass of students who smelled of rank body odor and adolescents boys who didn't quite get how much body spray to use?

Terrifying. And disgusting. Terrigustifying? New word. That should probably go on Amanda's mother's 'Word of the Day' calendar. Seriously.

But she'd never want to offend anyone by being so crass. Maybe just hand them a few... hundred mints a pray for the best. Always play the defense. Much easier than the offensive, at least.

Amanda, nearly having to be pried off of her mother by her father, waved what felt like her final goodbye as she stepped onto the train, tugging at her now inadequate  sundress.

Drew had gotten a compartment with a buddy of his, and happened to notice what appeared to be a first-year struggling with luggage outside of his window. He excused himself and strolled over to the young lady, and asked, "Can I help you? You seem to be having a bit of trouble there."

"Oh, thank God! I thought no one was going to help me. But please!" Rachel immediately relaxed. He shoved her violin case at him.

"Please be VERY careful with that... and, just grab the end of the trunk please... everyone is too damn busy to help me. But, isn't that what their job is, to help me?!" Rachel said muttering, as she and Drew began to heave the trunk up the train.

Nicolas took her violin case gently and grabbed her trunk with his other hand. "There's a lot of students and not a lot of staff here to help. As much as they would like to, they can't help everyone!" Drew lifted her trunk up into the train. "Alright! The worst part is over. Where to?"

"Wherever is empty! I don't really care. I can lead the way..." Rachel said, using all her strength to keep the trunk steady in the air.

There were three other prim -- almost otherworldly so -- children heading for the train. Two were identical to a tee, and one only looked similar by the dominant genetics and sheer coincidence. Their parents were absent. The ritualistic goodbyes, by extension, were skipped. One of the twins took his younger sister's trunk as well as his own and managed to fit them in -- Tetris style -- into the compartment under the train. The younger sister held tightly to a small cage in her arms, through which a rather small Horned Owl nipped at her exposed wrists. The other boy, eyes half-closed, took the step up and into the car. The other two followed promptly, the girl with a slight spring in her step. Once on the train, the boys shuffled off to find their social groups, leaving their sister to find her own as a mother turtle leaves its young to find their way to the sea. Fuck metaphors! The girl glanced around a bit before confidently and thoughtlessly turning into the second cabin on the left. "Haaaappy morning!"

Colin Clyde Fannings... the fourth, as his father frequently reminded him, entered the station with what looked like a permanent frown set on his face.

Clyde could recognize the fact that he should feel some sort of wildly important, possibly life changing emotion at this moment, be it immense fear, joy, or independence. But it was a little hard to focus on that as he attempted to simultaneously re-tie his black high tops and re-button the sleeves on his pushed up button down.

But of course, as soon as he voiced these concerns his father rolled his eyes, and reminded him of his manly duties as the fourth.

Clyde's struggles were real. To him at least.

With a dramatic sigh and prose filled goodbye (No I won't do drug- mom I won't do magic crystal met- Look I love you- - okay bye) to his parents, Clyde adjusted his shirt one last time before boarding the train.
